Umpqua Valley Transportation Sector Partnership
Our partnership was born from conversations with transportation industry leaders who wanted to take action to reduce driver shortages in Douglas county. Initially, we formed the Community Truck Driver Training Project in order to pay tuition costs for the Professional Truck Driver Certification at UCC. This helped reduce the financial barrier that many face in becoming a qualified driver. UCC has a great program and the project has seen successful applicants with each graduating class. However, we also realized that we needed more. The driver shortage is a multi-faceted issue, which means it requires a multi-faceted solution. We recognize that collaboration is a key component in successful region-wide and industry-wide change. Our success depends on our collective impact rather than our individual abilities, and thus the Umpqua Valley Transportation Sector Partnership was created. We are excited to move forward as we work together to identify and solve problems within the transportation industry.
