Our company starting in Covallis fifty years ago, and we've been part of Oregon ever since - helping our clients clean Oregon's water, engineer Oregon's buildings, and pave Oregon's highways. In fact, when the Oregon Department of Transportation recently chose our firm for both the Clarks Branch to Tunnel Mill Race and Sutherlin to Roseburg I-5 projects, CH2M HILL became one of the largest highway/bridge design-builders in the state. And as part of our committment to Oregon, we intend to share our firm's good fortune with businesses and people in local communities.
From now until the spring of 2007, the CH2M HILL team will design, construct, or repair 21 bridges along a 67-mile stretch of I-5. In our experience, the best teams include a diverse vendor base with a rich mix of small business partners. So we're working with Umpqua Training & Employment to help us find those great local resources. Not only do we plan to purchase materials and procedure services from communities near project sites whenever possible, we also expect to fill up to 50 percent of our construction project-hire craft positions with residents from the project areas. Involving small business partners stimulates competition, brings new ideas and technologies, enhances cost efficiencies, and strengthens the local pool of specialized resources.
